Iligan-Connected Mindanao Cities Strengthen Taxpayer Services Through Incentives
The City Finance Department of Cagayan de Oro has called on local taxpayers to avail of the real property tax (RPT) discount of up to 20% through advance full payment, a program aimed at easing tax obligations while improving local revenue collection.
City Treasurer Jasmin Maagad clarified that the tax discount is available only until December 31, 2025, and applies exclusively to advance full payment of real property tax. The incentive is granted under Section 10 of the 2015 Cagayan de Oro City Revenue Code, also known as Ordinance No. 12860-2014.
To ensure wider access, the City Finance Department remains open during the weekend, specifically on December 27 and 28, to accommodate taxpayers seeking to benefit from the discount.
Discount Rates Based on Tax Amount
The RPT discount depends on the total amount of tax due, computed as follows:
- P50,000 and below – 20% discount
- More than P50,000 but below P100,000 – 18%
- More than P100,000 but below P250,000 – 16%
- More than P250,000 but below P500,000 – 14%
- More than P500,000 but below P1,000,000 – 12%
- More than P1,000,000 but below P3,000,000 – 10%
- More than P3,000,000 but below P5,000,000 – 8%
- P5,000,000 and above – 7%
Mayor Klarex Uy earlier directed the City Treasurer and the Acting City Assessor to provide extended and extra services during the holiday season, ensuring that taxpayers can conveniently access the incentive despite the festive period.
