Iligan Lawmaker Pushes Expanded Nutrition Support for Learners
Congressman Celso Gomera Regencia has filed House Bill No. 6671, an amendment to Republic Act No. 11037, also known as the Healthy Learners Act, to expand the School-Based Feeding Program to include undernourished learners in public secondary schools.
The proposed measure seeks to cover students from Grade 7 to Grade 12, addressing research findings that malnutrition often persists through adolescence and continues to affect academic performance, health, and overall development among high school students.
House Bill No. 6671 maintains the core targeting rules and nutrition standards under Republic Act 11037 to ensure that assistance reaches learners who need it most. The bill also aims to strengthen coordination among the Department of Education and partner agencies to improve program monitoring and nutrition outcomes for secondary-level learners.
